SEND (Southeast Neighborhood Development, Inc) is a community development non-profit here on the southeast side of the city that came around because back in 1991 a bunch of people in the neighborhood decided to do something about the fact that this distinctive area of Indianapolis wasn’t quite living up to its historical reputation.
Over $35 million later and SEND has been a significant part of successfully attracting new businesses while improving housing and local youth programs and enhancing the natural beauty on the southeast side. And, in doing so, it’s bringing together a community of neighbors.
Because of these efforts, property values have increased nearly 90% and vital services such as a quality library, a police station, and a new health clinic now meet residential needs. And Fountain Square, one of several southeast neighborhoods, is now considered as an Indianapolis Cultural District.
